In Chicago in 2017 Volker Heenes and Dirk Jansen hope to present some of the findings of their research project on Jacopo Strada’s numismatic corpus preserved in the Forschungsbibliothek at Gotha. They plan to do so in a dedicated session within the panel on Coins and Medals. Proposals are invited for papers that will help to put Strada’s endeavours in the context of early modern numismatics. Papers might f.i. discuss the work of other Renaissance numismatists; specific aspects of numismatic research in the period; the use of early numismatic literature in its own time (f.i. in the arts or in political representation) or its later reception; or the interaction between numismatics and other disciplines (antiquarian studies, Roman law, ecclesiastical history).
Note that the digitisation of the Strada volumes in the Forschungsbibliothek Gotha has already begun: to date (May 2016) the first four volumes can be consulted in the Digitale Historische Bibliothek Erfurt/Gotha: http://archive.thulb.uni-jena.de/ufb/servlets/solr/ufb2?q=Strada
Please submit proposals by May 20, 2016 to the organisers of the session, Volker Heenes [firstname.lastname@example.org] and Dirk Jansen [email@example.com] , and/or to the organizers of the panel Coins and Medals: : Arne Flaten [firstname.lastname@example.org], Charles Rosenberg [email@example.com] and Tanja Jones [firstname.lastname@example.org] by May 20, 2016.
