Poggio Bracciolini: Scribe, Scholar, Chancellor

Organisers: Jeroen De Keyser (KU Leuven) and Hester Schadee (University of Exeter)

Submissions are invited for a series of panels on Poggio Bracciolini at the Renaissance Society of America’s Annual Meeting to be held in Chicago, 30 March – 1 April 2017. We are keen to shed light both on Poggio’s literary activities and on his career in the Church and the city of Florence. As such we welcome papers on Poggio’s own writings and his translations from Greek, his prominent role in the rediscovery and circulation of manuscripts and the creation of humanist script, his personal networks and professional employment, and the ensuing exchanges of letters and invectives. Poggio’s afterlife and the reception of his oeuvre in the vernacular languages also very much fall within the scope of these panels.

Please send your abstract of approx. 150-200 words and a single-page CV to either Hester Schadee ( or Jeroen De Keyser ( by Friday 27 May.
