Honorable Violence/Dishonorable Violence in Renaissance Europe

Posted By Peter W. Sposato, Monday, May 16, 2016

The powerful cultural forces of honor and shame were closely connected to violence in Renaissance Europe, especially among the traditional elite. Some forms of violence earned the perpetrator honor or cleansed the stain of dishonor/shame. In other contexts, violence led to dishonor. This panel seeks papers that elaborate on these connections through the exploration of honorable violence, dishonorable violence, cultures of violence, or any closely related topic.

Please submit an abstract (max. 150 words), CV (max. 300 words) and keywords to Peter Sposato at psposato@iuk.edu by May 30. Invitations to participate in the session will be sent by June 1, with final confirmation requested by June 3.
