CFP: Panel – Thomism and Renaissance
Sponsor: American Academy in Rome – Society of Fellows
2017 marks the fiftieth year since the publication of Paul Oskar Kristeller’s “Le Thomisme et la pensée italienne de la Renaissance” (Montréal and Paris, 1967; originally delivered as a lecture at the Conférence Albert-le-Grand in 1965). This panel examines “Le Thomisme” both for its insights about the history of philosophy, and for its influence on that history over the past five decades. As in so much of Kristeller’s oeuvre, here, too, what is at stake is the continuity, in the age of humanism, of philosophical positions and methods associated with scholasticism.
