CFP: Roundtable—Teaching Early Modern Religion with ‘The Other Voice’

‘The Other Voice in Early Modern Europe’—begun in 1996 and going strong in 2017—has transformed the teaching of Early Modern European cultural, intellectual, and gender history.  The field of religious history, too, has been decisively affected: one-fifth of the series’ titles (37 of 178 published, in press, and in the pipeline) address pre-modern theology, spirituality, and the realia of convent life. For this roundtable, we seek five-six participants who have drawn on the series to develop innovative strategies for teaching about pre-modern Judaism and Christianity. Each participant will have ten-twelve minutes to present a lesson plan.

Though OV is now published by Iter Academic Press, housed in the Toronto University Libraries system, its first sixty volumes were published by the University of Chicago Press. This pedagogy-oriented roundtable honors those origins. It also follows in the footsteps of Teaching Other Voices: Women and Religion in Early Modern Europe (Chicago 2007), edited by Margaret King and Albert Rabil.

Your proposal should include your name, academic affiliation, and paper title. Add your email, telephone, mailing address. Include an abstract of your paper in not more than 150 words; send three key-words as well. Finally, compose a one-paragraph C.V. of under 300 words.
