"From the Unity of Italians to the Unity of Italics: the Languages of Italicity Around the World”: an international conference that will be devoted to the present contribution of Italian culture to global culture. All around the world Italy speaks not one single language - the Italian language - but a plurality of verbal and non verbal languages. The variety of languages - from art to music, food, industrial design, sports - gives Italian civilization its richness, its mobility, its ability to reinvent itself. Having unified the Italians, it is now possible and necessary to understand and create a network among the "Italics”: those in the world who "think Italian”, even if they use other languages or belong to nationalities other than Italian.

The conference will be held at the Center for Italian Studies of the University of Pennsylvania April 15-16, 2011, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Washington, the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, the Associations "Globus et Locus”, "Centro Altreitalie-Fondazione Giovanni Agnelli”, NIAF, and AISLLI (International Association for the Study of Italian Language and Literature). The deadline to submit a proposal is February 15. Acceptance will be notified within a week of proposal receipt. The deadline for registration after notification of acceptance is February 25.

Proposal submission and registration information are available here.
