This lecture will focus on the activities of several of the most important Italian collectors, particularly those of the fifteenth century: the popes and cardinals of Rome, the Medici of Florence, and Isabella d’Este of Mantua. Dr. Scher will discuss the kinds of objects they sought, their motivations, their often unscrupulous methods of acquisition, and their attitudes toward contemporary art in relation to that of classical antiquity. No reservations are necessary; lecture seating general. Admission is free after 5:45pm. For more information, please visit our www.frick.org/education or call the Education office at 212.547.0704.
