UC Davis will host a conference on January 13–14, 2016, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Flemish composer Cipriano de Rore (1515/1516–1565). De Rore composed sophisticated settings of Italian and Latin texts that were sung by highly trained musicians. The repertory invites an interdisciplinary approach, involving musicologists, literary scholars and performers. The conference, Il divino Cipriano: New Perspectives on the Music of Cipriano de Rore, places performance at the center, with a concert by the highly-regarded Orlando Consort, in a performance of madrigals by Cipriano. This same repertory will be discussed by a distinguished group of musicologists and literary scholars. The Orlando Consort will also collaborate with musicologists on a session devoted to performance practice.
