Tour Date: Wednesday, 3/30, 5:00-6:00 pm.
Tour Location: Meet at Huntington Ave. entrance of the Museum of Fine Arts. The tour will be primarily in the “Conservation in Action” space on the second floor of the MFA.
Tour Leader: Frederick Ilchman, Mrs. Russell W. Baker Curator of Paintings, and Chair, Art of Europe; and Caitlin Breare, Assistant Conservator of Paintings, both at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Tour Description: “Byzantium in Italy: A Veneto-Cretan Altarpiece of the 15th Century.” This tour will be a joint conservation-curatorial talk, focusing upon restoration in progress of a major polyptych executed by a late Byzantine painter for an Italian client. Admission to the MFA is free to all after 4:45 pm on Wednesdays.
Reminders: Each member may sign up for only one tour. All tours are free of charge. Tour participants are generally expected to provide their own transportation to and from the tour; the Boston College tour is an exception in that it will offer a shuttle bus. Typically the tours fill very quickly, and there is not room for everyone to attend. If you sign up for a tour and find that you cannot attend, please notify the RSA so that someone else can take your place.
