Houghton Library Tour 1: Strategies for Finding Primary Sources for Research and Teaching the Renaissance

Tour Date: Thurs, 3/31, 10:00am–11:00

Tour Location: Edison and Newman Room, Houghton Library, Harvard University (in Harvard Yard, near Quincy St. and Massachusetts Ave.).

Public Transportation stop nearby: Harvard Square T (Red Line).

Tour Leader: William P. Stoneman, Curator of Early Books and Manuscripts

Tour Description: The Early Books and Manuscripts Department at Houghton Library, Harvard’s principal rare book and special collections library, includes material dating from approximately 3000 BCE to 1600 CE and ranges from papyri to early and illuminated manuscripts to early printed books. Participants will see a selection of items relating to the Renaissance.

Reminders: Each member may sign up for only one tour. All tours are free of charge. Tour participants are generally expected to provide their own transportation to and from the tour; the Boston College tour is an exception in that it will offer a shuttle bus. Typically the tours fill very quickly, and there is not room for everyone to attend. If you sign up for a tour and find that you cannot attend, please notify the RSA so that someone else can take your place.
