Tour Description: This tour will focus on the museum's current exhibition Off the Wall: Gardner and Her Masterpieces (10 March to 15 August). Installed in the Hostetter Gallery, it features twenty-five paintings and drawings from the second floor of Gardner's palace, offering the rare opportunity to experience her masterpieces up close and lit to their best advantage. Included are works by Simone Martini, Fra Angelico, Botticelli, Benabarre, Raphael, Rembrandt and Rubens. A selection of archival materials related to Gardner's acquisitions and the foundation of her museum will also be on display.
N.B. The second floor (piano nobile) of the palace will be off view for necessary roof maintenance from March through August 2016. The rest of the permanent collection will be available as normal.
Reminders: Each member may sign up for only one tour. All tours are free of charge. Tour participants are generally expected to provide their own transportation to and from the tour; the Boston College tour is an exception in that it will offer a shuttle bus. Typically the tours fill very quickly, and there is not room for everyone to attend. If you sign up for a tour and find that you cannot attend, please notify the RSA so that someone else can take your place.
