In Other Words: Translating Philosophy in the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries / In altre parole. Tradurre filosofia fra Quattro e Cinquecento

We are pleased to announce an International Conference to be held at Warwick University (UK) from the 10th to the 12th of May 2017. The conference, which has been conceived within the framework of the ERC Project on Aristotle in the Italian Vernacular, will focus on specific trends in the theory and practice of Renaissance philosophical translation, as witnessed by both the Italian and the broader European context. Although the vernacular is of particular concern, we also wish to understand in what way(s) translations into Latin or other languages functioned as models for translators into the vernacular.

The first day of the conference will consider the broad phenomenon of Renaissance philosophical translation. The second and third days will give particular attention to the vernacularisation of Aristotle’s works, both in philosophy and in rhetoric and poetics.

Confirmed keynote speakers include: James Hankins, Jill Kraye, Jean-Louis Fournel, Dario Tessicini.
