| Proposed Topic Area | We welcome the submission of a paper on any Renaissance or Early Modern figure or figures who at one time hid their true religious identity either for fear of religious persecution or some other practicable reason. Papers should use the narrow case study of their chosen figure(s) to open up wider topics of discussion that will be of general interest. Confirmed papers in this panel are: Ariel Hessayon, 'Antonio Carvajal (c.1596–d.1659), merchant, crypto-Jew and Jew' Stefano Villani, 'Unmasking the identity of Alessandro Amidei, Hebrew teacher' Prospective panelists should email Ariel Hessayon with a brief (150-250 word) outline of their proposed paper |
