Renaissance News and Notes now Renaissance News
Thursday, September 10, 2015
The rebirth of Renaissance News and Notes as Renaissance News brings us back to the early days of RSA.
In 1954, following the dissolution of the ACLS Committee on Renaissance Studies, a group of scholars founded the Renaissance Society of America. One of their goals was to assure the continued publication of a newsletter called Renaissance News, whose future was unclear following the loss of the ACLS stipend that funded it. Renaissance News had been published since 1948 (and five issues before that, tucked in the Journal of Renaissance and Baroque Music), reporting on regional conferences, recent manuscript and rare book acquisitions, and research projects underway in Renaissance studies.
Although the title eventually changed to Renaissance News and Notes, it continued to be published in paper, PDF, and email form, serving as a source of news about Renaissance studies while offering information on RSA membership renewal, the Annual Meeting, and Associate Organization news.
Our updated version of the RSA newsletter reverts back to the original name of the publication while reimagining the relationship between our website and the publication. The newsletter has been designed specifically for reading on mobile devices and faster browsing.
Each issue will highlight a few of the news and event items posted on our website. We will also share RSA updates about the Annual Meeting, fellowships, and other initiatives along with the latest information about Renaissance Quarterly.
We expect to publish Renaissance News every four to six weeks, depending on the time of the year, and we hope that it will carry the spirit of its namesake long into the future.
