"Tasso in Music Project" Awarded $260,000 NEH Scholarly Editions and Translations Grant

The "Tasso in Music Project" has been awarded a 3-year, $260,000 Scholarly Editions and Translations Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Directed by Prof. Emiliano Ricciardi (UMass Amherst) and realized in collaboration with Stanford University's Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities and an international team of scholars, the project is a digital critical edition of the extant early modern musical settings (c. 650) of Torquato Tasso's poetry. The majority of these settings are currently unavailable in modern edition and will be brought to the attention of the scholarly and performance community for the first time by the project. The editions will be available for consultation and download in a variety of electronic formats, accompanied by a dynamic critical apparatus and digital analytical tools.
