The Art Institute of Chicago’s Deering Family Galleries of Medieval and Renaissance Art, Arms, and Armor to open in March 2017

This major reinstallation will provide long-awaited new galleries of Medieval and Renaissance art, which will be open to visitors during the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Renaissance Society of America (30 March–1 April 2017). The Deering Family Galleries of Medieval and Renaissance Art, Arms, and Armor, presents a contextual display of religious and secular works of art from the museum’s permanent collection of European art for the period from 1200 to 1600. Featuring outstanding objects brought to life by an evocative installation offering insights into the spiritual, domestic and chivalric worlds of this formative period, The Deering Family Galleries bring together almost 700 works in all media from the permanent collection, including remarkable altarpieces, architectural sculpture, textiles, objects for the Renaissance home, jewelry, and the Art Institute’s renowned and comprehensive collection of arms and armor.
