Fall '17 Intermediate Classical Greek Online

Monday, September 18, 2017   (0 Comments)

This Fall term (2017) the Erasmus Academy is offering an Intermediate Classical Greek course online, focusing on the Attic prose texts of Lysias and Plato. The course assumes a full year or 1½ years of college instruction in classical Greek. Over the past twenty-two years the Academy has been providing graduate and college students the opportunity of learning classical and modern languages during an 8-week summer program. This past summer 56 students from different regions of North America enrolled in our language courses. On average, 85% of these students pass their language proficiency exam at their home institution on their first try.

With this Fall-term intermediate Greek course, the Erasmus Academy is launching a new and attractive series of courses in the classics, and is making it easy and affordable to enroll. Accordingly, any student may attend and fully participate in any first four classes free of charge. Secondly, a student may begin attending on any Thursday of the next four weeks: Sept. 14; Sept. 21Sept. 28; or Oct. 5. (For those who join later, a prorated course fee is assessed.) To continue enrollment into a fifth class, the student must pay the course fee of $750. (This is a moderate fee, compared with most college semester courses costing $1,800-2,400.) This 12-week class includes 36 hours of instruction, is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00-9:00 pm EST, and is conducted in real time. Students log on at specific times and interact directly with the instructor and their other classmates by answering questions and translating texts visible on their screens.

The instructor, Mr. Aramis Lopez, has extensive teaching experience including serving as the Chair and instructor in the Greek program of the summer Latin/Greek Institute of Brooklyn College, held at the CUNY Graduate Center, NYC from 2013 to 2017.

More information is available on the course website.
