Call for PhD Proposals
Italian Literature and Linguistics–UGent

The Section of Italian Studies, Dept. of Literary Studies & Dept. of Linguistics, Ghent University is looking for competitive candidates to apply for PhD (BOF and/or FWO) Fellowships.

These two Flemish sources of PhD funding offer to the winning candidates a competitive salary (ca. 1,900 EUR/month net, 2+2 years) and research funds. UGent, a top-100 institution worldwide, offers a dynamic and international academic environment where PhD students are involved in high quality training and research. Considering that the BOF and FWO fellowships are most competitive and prestigious awards, the Section of Italian Studies Committee will select only the strongest profiles and proposals, and will offer them the opportunity to apply under the supervision of a UGent professor.

To be considered as a potential candidate for a BOF and/or FWO application, you need:

  • to hold a master's degree with honors/distinction (cum laude) in the field of Humanities, including, but not limited to: modern languages, classical languages, linguistics, literature, history, and philosophy;
  • an excellent command of Italian and very good command of English for writing a research project proposal and discussing it in an interview.

To be taken into consideration, BOF applicants preferably belong at least to the top 1% best students of the group of fellow students who took exams for the same degree (on bachelor and master level).

One or more scientific peer-reviewed publications will be considered an asset.

Candidates who would like to be considered for a BOF and/or FWO application are invited to send a CV with list of publications and title of the MA dissertation, and a max 400-word abstract research proposal in English, by November 1st, 2017 to one of the Italian Section professors:
