Would you like to publish a short primary source?
After 36 years, the editorial board of Lias has rejuvenated and a new publisher has taken over. Lias (Dutch for file; French: ‘liasse') is devoted to the publication of primary sources of about sixty pages or fewer which concern the history of learning and education in the broadest sense: the artes liberales, the studia humanitatis, philosophy, theology, law, medicine, and the (new) sciences, as well as sources concerning educational institutions, libraries, the Republic of Letters, learned academies and societies. Its chronological scope runs from the fourteenth to the early nineteenth century, that is, from the beginnings of humanism to the end of the Enlightenment.
We welcome editions of source texts in their original languages. Introductory material and footnotes must be written in English, and we require an English synopsis of each source text. French sources, however, may be accompanied by an introduction and notes in French. Studies based on neglected printed sources may also be accepted. All submitted articles are peer reviewed by two external referees in a double-blind anonymous system. Official website: http://poj.peeters-leuven.be
Most back issues (1974-2004) are freely available on-line: http://webdoc.ubn.kun.nl/tijd/l/lias/
