Walter Liedtke was my friend and mentor. Having no idea of the immense effort in studying early modern art history; he, with Dr. Maria Connelly [FIT, American Folk Art, Brooklyn Academy] pointed me in the direction of Syracuse U and programs abroad where I received my MA in Florence. And finally PhD at UCLA. He introduced me to so many remarkable scholars, restorationists, historians; Keith Christiansen, Andrea Bauer, Alain Goldrach, Leo Steingberg. His verve, enthusiasm, support and friendship are indelible in my life. The last time my wife, Sheri and I saw him and his wonderful wife, Nancy, some few months before his demise, was by chance at our mutual favorite restaurant in Rome, VECCHIA ROMA. We rejoiced. I miss him madly.
