The Opler Conference celebrates the first ten years of the Scott Opler Fellowship in Renaissance and Baroque Architecture at Worcester College, Oxford. Presentations over three days will present new research and innovative approaches in the study of early modern architecture. Full conference information may be found at The goal of the conference is to discuss major themes in the discipline, with ample opportunity for the presentation of new directions, current projects, innovative approaches, and challenging problems. The field of early modern architecture is at an interesting juncture, finding its way in an academic climate that welcomes global approaches and new theoretical models yet also recognizes the essential place of primary research and the attention to the physical reality of buildings and their surroundings. These varied approaches may at times compete for dominance yet there is much to be gained from taking a broad view of the discipline, a topographical perspective that brings in the greatest variety of approaches. In addition to lectures by former and current Opler Fellows, there will also be presentations by a group of distinguished scholars from North America and Europe. Specially arranged visits to collections and buildings in Oxford will allow the first hand discussion of architecture and the materials for its study.

Please also see the announcement regarding bursaries for the conference.
