As both action and object, drawing gained increasing currency during the Renaissance, coming to serve as a central component of the design process. This expanded role for drawing as practice and study developed particularly in Italy where it contributed to the emerging identity of the professional architect, distinct from the master-builder, artist or craftsman. This symposium highlights new scholarly explorations of the place of drawing in Italian Renaissance architectural practice. Presented in a workshop forum, each of the three sessions will incorporate a pair of papers followed by responses and discussion among the participants. Full details are available at:
