Call for Survey Participants and Essay Contributors:

Please participate in this MLA survey to help with the development of a new MLA Approaches to Teaching the Sonnet volume. All survey contributors will be acknowledged in the published volume.

The survey includes information on how to propose an essay for the volume:

Possible topics for essays include

  • sonnet-focused courses (thematic or historical);
  • guides to sonnet textbooks, resources, and anthologies;
  • teaching specific sonnet writers;
  • teaching sonnet cycles;
  • teaching sonnet types, such as English/Shakespearean, Spenserian, Petrarchan;
  • teaching sonnet subjects, such as political sonnets, love sonnets, religious sonnets;
  • sonnet activities (e.g., creative writing, memorization, etc.);
  • sonnet analysis strategies;
  • the sonnet in literary surveys;
  • teaching the sonnet in high school;
  • sonnets in translation;
  • sonnets and visual art, music, and popular culture;
  • teaching sonnet variants: embedded sonnets, curtailed sonnets, expanded sonnets;
  • teaching sonnets in other language traditions (Italian, Spanish, French, German, etc.).
