Why Join the RSA?

Membership in the RSA offers substantial personal benefits, including unlimited access to Renaissance Quarterly and Early English Books Online as well as discounts from book publishers, electronic bibliographies, hotels, and entertainment.

But RSA membership also offers additional benefits to you, to your colleagues, and to the larger scholarly community. For example:

  • Mentoring. RSA members may participate in the RSA’s new program to share expertise with a junior or senior colleague. Topics may cover the job market, publishing, technology, or the specific details within an academic discipline such as art history or literature.

  • Fellowships. RSA members may apply for one of more than two dozen research fellowships and publication subventions awarded each year.

  • Interdisciplinarity. The RSA is the largest interdisciplinary academic society in the world devoted to Renaissance Studies. It deliberately includes multiple disciplines and many geographic areas, as well as a broad time frame, in order to capture the many facets of the late medieval, Renaissance, and early modern world. Most academic societies are more narrowly focused but RSA has a “big tent” for scholars, curators, librarians, teachers, and more.

  • Excellence. The RSA is widely recognized for its high standards in publishing, conference organization, and fellowships. It is striving to lead the way also in digital communications.

  • Global Reach. The RSA is international in its reach and fosters global research through its membership as well as the subjects it addresses through grants, publications, and conference sessions.

The RSA is crucial to the study of the arts and humanities, allowing us to share our knowledge on a scale none of us could achieve alone. Because we are not supported by universities or affiliated with any single research institution, your membership is important to our mission. The RSA is a place for interdisciplinary inspiration and research.
